Over 230 doctors and police officers trained on the health protection of persons in police detention
In cooperation with the Council of Europe and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, SUPRAM accredited a continuing professional education programme entitled “Strengthening the protection of the right to health of persons deprived of liberty” with the Serbian Health Council. During May and June 2025, trainings were held in Belgrade, Niš and Novi Sad, where over 230 doctors and police officers from across Serbia enhanced their knowledge on health protection of persons in police detention, in line with Council of Europe standards.
The trainings targeted general practitioners, emergency medicine physicians and police officers, with the aim of strengthening intersectoral cooperation and improving practice in the field of health care for persons deprived of liberty. The programme was implemented in response to recommendations of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) and within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2024 by the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Health.
The trainings were carried out within the action “Enhancing the human rights protection of detained and sentenced persons in Serbia”, as part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”.
